You own your own store. That’s great, but becoming the owner is just the beginning. In order to succeed, you must welcome customers into your store. To do that, start off by say something to them as soon as they walk in – something more than just a “hey” and head nod. Be sure not to say “Can I help you?,” too. You’ll most likely get the “No, just looking” response. Instead, try asking something like, “How did you sleep last night?” or “What brings you in today?” Good questions get customers thinking and give them the feeling that you’re interested in why they’re in the store that day.
