Innersprings are a colossal part of the bedding industry, and they are consistently changing. Updates, redesigns, and new innovations are to be expected each year. Some trends to know include new constructions. Spring suppliers continue to make thinner, shorter microcoils for use in comfort layers while many mattress makers are layering spring units – utilizing different types of coils to provide varying levels of support and comfort. Another trend is changing pockets. Pocketed coils that use glue to attach fabric to the springs are more difficult to recycle than Bonnell units. Because of this, suppliers are creating constructions without glue to simplify the process of separating the fabric from the springs to recycle.
