If a sales associate wants to be good at their job, they need to possess a unique set of skills. One skill they should have is a desire to help others. The retail industry is geared toward making people’s lives better, so you should naturally have a desire to sell them the right product to improve their life.

Another skill to have is empathy. An employee that’s empathetic can put themselves in a customer’s shoes and truly understand what they want. Patience is another key skill to possess. Sometimes customers like to take it slow and really think things over. If that’s the case, you have to just let it be and give them time. Patience truly is a virtue. One other skill that is essential is the ability to multitask. To maximize sales, you must be able to work with multiple customers at a time while also handling the daily tasks of the job.
