Some may consider spending time in nature boring or dirty, but it can actually work wonders for human health. Outdoor camping can lower blood pressure and stress hormones while sparking feelings of awe. Growing research is suggesting camping can also improve sleep by resetting our internal clocks to a natural sleep cycle. Kenneth Wright, a researcher at the University of Colorado Boulder and author of a study released in the journal “Current Biology,” embarked on a camping trip with others to conduct research back in 2013. Before and after the trip, he measured levels of melatonin and found that people’s internal clocks were delayed by two hours in their modern environment. These people were able to recalibrate after a week in nature.
