Study Says Apple Watch and Fitbit can Diagnose Hypertension and Sleep Apnea

A study from Cardiogram and the University of California, San Francisco is suggesting that Apple Watches and Fitbits can accurately diagnose common health issues such as hypertension and sleep apnea. The published study stated these wearable technologies can diagnose hypertension with 82 percent accuracy and sleep apnea with 90 percent accuracy; figures that are slightly lower than what was proven in a separate study by Cardiogram and UCSF regarding diagnosing abnormal heart rhythm (97 percent accuracy). The study included over 6,000 subjects, with 37 percent having hypertension and 17 percent having sleep apnea. Hypertension and sleep apnea affect millions of people around the world, and these devices offer a new way to stay ahead of these two health issues.
