What Happens When Millennial Moms Take Over

Posted by Ashley Hawse on

Moms are arguably one of the most valuable and sought after demographics in all industries. Mom is the decision maker and typically influences every family member’s purchases. As an RSA, you’ve probably sold a number of beds to moms, or at least noticed moms tend to be present during the buying process.

Recently, another demographic – Millennial moms – has emerged as a thriving market worth keeping tabs on. Millennials are defined as being born in the early 1980s through the early 2000s. In 2012 it was estimated there are nearly 80 million millennials residing in the United States alone, with 20% of the mom audience made up of millennials. Characterized by heavy social media use and an appreciation for loyalty programs, this target market is expected to exceed their predecessor’s (Baby Boomer moms) buying power in the next 5 years. Here come the millennials!

According to the infographic below from PunchTab, millennial moms are brand advocates that can really make an impact, and before they take over the scene, you may want to do some research and learn their preferences. The infographic by PunchTab is a great way to get started. Happy selling!
